I support and endorse the proposal made by Fraydun Manocherian to add a half
a penny per gallon of gasoline tax to the Federal Highway Trust Fund for the
creation of a National Traffic Safety Education Program. This program shall
incentivize high schools to have an effective, uniform driver education curriculum,
and shall formulate, produce and distribute safety messages in print and electronic
media to educate the public. Such lifelong education should be targeted to young
children to develop positive attitudes toward safety; to pedestrians; bicyclists;
motorcyclists and drivers of cars, trucks and to senior citizens who continue
to drive with much reduced reflexes.
