FRAYDUN MANOCHERIAN HONORED BY NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION (NHTSA) WITH A PUBLIC SERVICE AWARD

NHTSA Administrator Dr. Jeffrey Runge, honors New Yorkerís 40 Year Commitment to Road Safety and Education.

New York, NY; August 2005 ‚ Fraydun Manocherian, founder of The National Road Safety Foundation, was honored by Dr. Jeffrey Runge, Administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, with a Public Service Award for over forty years of dedication to educate the public about the importance of road safety.

At a press conference to announce a the pre-Labor Day Tri-State ìYou Drink, You Drive, You Loseî campaign to combat drunk driving, Dr. Runge started his remarks with the announcement of the award. Dr. Runge praised Mr. Manocherian for his ìgenerous and selfless support of roadway safety goals.î

Mr. Manocherianís purpose in life is to promote safety on our roads. Mr. Manocherian, celebrated Manhattan businessman (health clubs & real estate), has met with several Presidents and testified before Congress several times. He was an advocate for passage of The National Highway Safety Act which established the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in 1970.

His voice was among the first to rally the nation against drunk driving. He currently advocates a uniform driver education curriculum with financial incentives to all high schools for an effective driver education program. In addition, he proposes through NHTSA, extension of local and national media campaigns to educate the public about driver safety in their homes and cars. The National Road Safety Foundation produces and distributes free of charge a traffic safety manual, ìFlesh, Metal & Glass,î educational films and public service campaigns for use by the media and in driver education, traffic safety, public health and enforcement programs.
